Description
The stable block north of Startforth Hall is a Grade II listed building, dated 1754, featuring the initials G A on the architrave of the north door, though it may include older materials. The front is constructed of squared stone, while the other walls are made of squared rubble, all of which are rendered and pebbledashed, with cut dressings. The roof is made of graduated stone slate and has a grey brick stack on the rear slope.
The building is two storeys high and consists of two bays. It has a plinth and features 9-pane short sash windows set within architraves. The gables are coped and supported by moulded kneelers. The left side of the building displays a triangular pigeon opening in the gable with a stone alighting shelf, while the rear has an outshut window with blacksmith's glazing in an architrave. The right side includes a boarded door in a dated architrave and some inserted openings. The rear features a boarded door in a chamfered surround with a flattened triangular head within a square frame, along with a 9-pane fixed casement.
