Description
The outbuildings and yard walls located to the north-west of Startforth Hall date from the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed rubble with cut stone and brick dressings, topped with graduated stone slate roofs. These buildings form a yard at the rear of the north-west wing of Startforth Hall.
The tall flat-coped walls on the north and south sides of the yard are complemented by pent outbuildings. The north wall features a boarded door set within an alternating-block surround. The larger building on the west side has a blocked door at its two-bay south end, and above it is a small Gothick window with old latticed glazing in a raised brick surround. The projecting left bay includes a boarded door beneath a stone hood supported by corbels, and there is a small window with similar glazing in the east wall. Additionally, there are two boarded doors under timber lintels on the west side, along with a pent privy located at the south-west corner.
