Description
This is a dovecote and an adjacent outbuilding located to the west of West Mews, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. The structure is built of rubble with cut dressings and features a stone slate roof. The outbuilding includes a taller square dovecote at the northeast corner. The dovecote has round pigeon openings with stone surrounds on the east, north, and west sides, although the openings on the north and west are now blocked. It is topped with a pyramid roof. The outbuilding has boarded double doors located on the south side and at the west end. Inside the dovecote, there are paired brick nesting boxes arranged on stone shelves. This building was formerly part of the outbuildings of Low Startforth Hall.
