Description
Nos. 9, 11, and 13 Market Place is a house that was later converted into two shops and flats, with one shop now subdivided. It dates from the early 19th century, with early 20th-century shop fronts. The building is constructed of thin courses of squared stone, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a slate roof with a stone ridge and chimney. It stands three storeys high and has a three-window range, with long two-storey rear wings.
There are two steps leading up to a yard passage door located to the right of the centre, which has a recessed tooled stone surround. This door is obscured by shop alterations. The left shop front, which has been subdivided, includes two-light windows and a central four-panel door with an opening transom light, along with a narrow fascia that has a cloth canopy supported by hinged iron stays. The right shop front features an entrance on the right and a higher fascia.
On the upper floors, there are plain stone surrounds to plain sashes on No. 13 and four-pane sashes on No. 11. The latter has a large single restored window at the centre of the first floor, along with two second-floor windows. The low-pitched roof has a chimney at the right end that is enclosed in the roof of the adjacent house. The passage shows a Gothic-style doorway leading to the left shop. The interior has not been inspected.
