Description
The barn and stables located to the west of Lodge Farmhouse were built in 1779. The structure is made of rubble with herringbone tooling on the ashlar quoins and features ashlar dressings. It has a pantiled roof with stone gable coping. The walls at the front are constructed from coursed rubble with quoins and flat stone coping, while the rear walls are also coursed rubble but have rounded coping.
The barn is one storey high, with one bay at the front and four bays along the side. The south elevation includes a flat stone lintel and sill above an empty rectangular opening, along with a recessed lunette in the gable pediment, which is reinforced with triangular blocks at the edges. The left gable coping is missing, and the roof is hipped at the north end. The long side returns have vent slits and boarded doors, while the north elevation features boarded double doors.
High walls at the front, which connect to the farmhouse, are made of coursed rubble with large ashlar quoins that form the entrance to the yard, topped with flat stone coping. A low wall at the rear east, which has been partly renewed, connects to former hemmel walls and piers in the farmyard. These are made of regularly-sized small square blocks, with coping of roughly dressed semicircular stones, and feature a central quadrant curve leading to square piers with moulded stone coping.
Inside the barn, there are tied roof trusses with diagonal struts. The barn was noted to be in poor condition during a survey in 1991.
