Description
The ice house in Auckland Castle Park dates from the late 18th century and features a renewed 19th-century entrance tunnel. It is located in the north-west part of the park, east of the River Gaunless and on the south bank of the Coundon Burn. The ice house appears as a spread mound of earth measuring approximately 10 meters by 7 meters and rising up to 1.5 meters high. On the north side, there is an arched entrance tunnel made of yellow brick, which has a round rowlock arched entrance that is currently blocked. The low height of the entrance indicates that there are steps leading down into the structure, and it is reported that the interior is lined with brick.
