Description

The stables and barn located to the east of Lodge Farmhouse, built in 1779, feature a 20th-century barn roof. The structure is made of coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. The barn has a corrugated asbestos roof with louvred ridge ventilators, while the stable has a pantiled roof. The building is one storey with a one-bay gable facing south. The left side, which faces the yard, has two storeys with five openings on each level, and the barn on the left is taller. The south elevation includes a flat stone lintel above a central boarded opening, with voussoirs and recessed blocking forming a semicircular arch that rests on a bed of gable pediment, reinforced at the edges with triangular blocks. The steeply-pitched roof of the stable range matches the height of the barn, which has three raised gabled ridge ventilators.

On the left side facing the yard, the barn features a boarded door with a wedge stone lintel inserted into a blocked full-height arched opening, with hinge pins still in place in the block jambs. There are slit vents on the ground floor and above, with two louvred vents flanking the slit vent on the right side. The lower stable block to the right has flat stone lintels over two boarded stable doors and a thin wood lintel over a third door, along with flat stone sills for the stable lights. Inside, the barn shows opposed doors and deep splays to the vent slits, with king post roof trusses that include diagonal struts, side purlins, and a vertical board ridge purlin.
