Description

This is an 18th-century milestone located on Castle Drive in Bishop Auckland. It is made of sandstone and has a tapered shape, standing approximately 0.5 meters high with a square base and a rounded top. The north face of the milestone features the inscription "1 mile to the castle" in cursive script. The drive is no longer used for access to Auckland Castle.
