Description
Park Head Farm cattle shelter in Auckland Park is a late 18th-century structure built from coursed stone with ashlar quoins and a Welsh slate roof featuring grey ridge tiles. The shelter is a single storey and consists of three bays. It has three Tudor-arched openings, which have irregular block jambs and voussoirs with small keystones. The third arch contains a ledged boarded door, while the other two arches are empty. The roof is hipped, and the returns have small square vent openings with flat stone lintels. Inside, there is a bracket-shaped painted wood manger in the north-west corner, and four niches, likely for lamps, flanking the doorways. The shelter is prominently positioned, offering a view south over Auckland Castle Park towards the Bishop Auckland-Durham road.
