Description

The barn, located approximately 20 metres west of Lodge Farmhouse, dates to the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed and galleted carstone blocks with red brick dressings, and has a pantile roof. The barn is arranged around three steads, each with a gable parapet and a dentil cornice. A large central opening is present, while the flanking and east gables feature red brick quoined vertical stripes, incorporating square, honeycombed ventilation openings. A continuous lean-to extends to the rear under a pantile roof, incorporating a central doorway. A lower range is attached to the west. Internally, the walls are of chalk. Original 18th-century ties and rafters are visible, though the rafters in the eastern stead were renewed following a fire. The barn is included on the listing for its group value.
