Description
Whitehouse Farmhouse is a 17th-century house located on Chapel Road in Grimston. It is constructed from colourwashed carstone and some chalk, with a pantile roof. The building features a two-cell cross passage plan with an additional bay extension to the right and is raised to one and a half storeys from a single storey. The principal facade faces west towards the road and includes a dentil cornice, an external stack at the left end, and an axial stack located between the second bay and the extension. The doorway has been renewed and is situated to the right of the first cell. The ground floor has two 2-light casements with glazing bars, while the first floor has two 3-light casements with glazing bars and two blocked openings in the right extension.
On the right side of the building, there is a six-paned recessed sash window on the ground floor and a renewed casement with glazing bars and a shaped stone lintel in the attic. The rear of the house has a former outshut that has been altered with a 20th-century jettied and gabled first floor to the left and a glazed extension to the right, both of which are not of special interest. Inside, there is a staircase located behind the chimney bay stack, and the fireplace is enclosed. The central beam, which dates from the 17th century, has bar stops and is partially enclosed in the first cell. Additionally, there is a built-in corner cupboard from the 18th century in the second cell.
