Description

The former cottage, located 20 metres to the east of Edge Knoll, is a Grade II listed farmworker's cottage and stable, likely dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings, featuring roofs made of graduated stone flags with a stone ridge and pantiles.

The building is single-storey and consists of four bays, with the second bay being lower and narrower. The cottage on the left has a flat stone lintel over a boarded door on the right, while the left bay is obscured by vegetation. There is a small central square ridge chimney. The stable on the right has flat stone lintels over a boarded door on the left and an empty window on the right. The right section has a steeply-pitched roof that rises to a ridge continuous with the left part. The left return gable peak features a small attic window. The rear elevation has two openings at the eaves of the cottage, with a higher ground level.

The interior, which was partly inspected, reveals pegged and halved collared tie-beam trusses in the second bay, a wall dividing the bays of the cottage, and sloping beams with hanging pegs extending from the door lintel to the side walls of this bay.

This building is included for its group value.
