Description

Frosterley House Cottage and the adjoining arch are early 19th-century structures located on the north side of Front Street in Stanhope. They are built from coursed squared sandstone with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a roof of stone slates. The building stands two storeys high and features two windows along with a carriage arch on the left side. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door set in a plain surround, with flat stone lintels above. To the right on the ground floor, there is a late 19th-century sash window with a projecting painted sill, accompanied by other 16-pane sash windows. The low-pitched roof is complemented by end chimneys. The tall arch on the left side has voussoirs and a flat stone coping. Inside, there is a cast-iron barred grate in the first-floor room.
