STANHOPE FRONT STREET NZ 03 NW (North side) Frosterley 21/190 Outbuildings north of Frosterley House

GV II

Byre, henhouse, stables and coachhouse (now garage). Circa 1840. Squared sandstone rubble with quoins, and ashlar and brick dressings; stone-flagged roof. L-plan. 2-storey, 3-bay stable, with pent one-storey coachhouse at right end and 2-storey, one-bay byre breaking forward at left; bank entry to first-floor henhouse at rear of byre. Former stable has central boarded door in square-headed stone surround; flat stone lintels to hit-and-miss opening at left and fixed light at right. Long row of pigeon holes at eaves with brick vertical divisions. Boarded carriage doors at right under low segmental arch with voussoirs. Left wing has front gable containing 2 small fixed lights on first floor and wide fixed light with glazing bars above; boarded door on inner return. Cobbled forecourt of river-worn stones.
