Description
This is a terrace of houses located at 1 to 6 Leazes Place, built around 1840. The structure is made of English garden wall bond brick with an ashlar basement, quoins, and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. Notable features include a cast and wrought iron gas lamp, area railings, and a foot scraper. The terrace consists of basements and two storeys, with No. 1 having three bays and a left return to Claypath, while the other houses have two bays each, totaling thirteen bays.
The houses feature six-panelled doors with overlights, and Nos. 3 and 4 have doors with glazing bars. Tuscan doorcases adorn Nos. 3 and 4, while the other houses display fluted pilasters with a Greek key frieze and cornice. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, with sashes that include glazing bars. Notably, No. 4 has a large first-floor oriel window. The roof is hipped at the left end and includes ridge brick chimneys.
There is a wrought-iron foot scraper shaped like a '2' set into the step of No. 3. An incised ashlar block with the street name is located at the left end. Between Nos. 4 and 5, there is a mid-19th century gas lamp made of cast and wrought iron, featuring a square shape with a high acorn-shaped finial, resting on an iron bracket. The area railings for Nos. 5 and 6 are spear-headed with rear stays and are set in chamfered dwarf walls.
