Description

The front garden wall at The Old Manor House Hotel, formerly known as the front garden wall at West Auckland Hall, dates from the early 18th century and features 20th-century railings. It is constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and piers, complemented by rubble return walls and cast-iron railings. The front wall has a segmental ashlar coping and is flanked by tall rusticated square ashlar piers with swept coping at both ends, which frame vehicle and pedestrian gates located to the left and right of the center, as well as at intermediate points. The right return wall along the lane leading to the rear yard has quoins on the left side, the return of the front pier, and irregular stone coping. The spear-headed railings, which are in a 19th-century style, were added in the 20th century, and the gates have been renewed in wood.
