Description

The building known as Iceland was formerly a Woolworths store and features a symmetrical two-storey façade designed in a modern classical style. It has three bays with a continuous cornice, and the center bay projects slightly forward, showcasing three tall metal casement windows that are separated by pilasters with capitals and modillions, topped with a very slight pediment. There are blank panels on either end of the façade.

The original shop-front on the ground floor is characteristic of Woolworths' inter-war design, featuring two double doors with glazed overlights above, a central display window, and two display windows on either side. In 2009, the doors were replaced with a plain glass window to the right and aluminium glazed doors to the left. The display windows are designed with quadrant glazing at each corner and have bronze square section framing, complete with ventilation strips and rosette details. The stall risers are made of pearl granite, and there is a shop fascia above that includes a moulded cornice, end console brackets, and roundel soffits.

To the rear, the shop extends into a large plain brick structure that accommodates the main shop, staff facilities, and a loading area. A later shop extension to the right is not considered to be of special interest. The building has not been inspected.
