Description
The large barn at Great Manson Farm is constructed from roughly coursed red sandstone rubble and is topped with corrugated asbestos sheeting. It features large opposed threshing doors and has two lean-to additions on each side towards the ends, each with doorways and small windows. The north-east gable end, which faces the farm, includes a camber-headed window at loft level and a camber-headed doorway on the ground floor, with a small window to the right. Near the north-east end, there are opposed blocked doorways with 2-centred Gothic heads. The south-west end has a coped gable. The rear elevation was not accessible during the resurvey in June 2004.
Inside, the roof structure consists of mortice-and-tenon tie beam trusses. A stone wall has been inserted to the north-east of the Gothic doorways to create a loft, with one roof truss tie-beam cut to allow for headroom. Some wall plaster remains at loft level. The barn was unaltered at the time of the resurvey, but access was not possible.
