Description

The statue of the Hon. Charles Rolls is a bronze standing figure set on a plinth made of Shap granite, which features two square steps and a square base. Above this, a slightly tapered plinth supports the statue and carries three bronze plaques. The statue depicts Rolls in a tweed suit, looking quizzically at a model of the bi-plane he was flying when he died. The plaques, designed in art-nouveau style, illustrate scenes of Flying, Ballooning, and Motor Racing, which were Rolls' three main interests.
