Description

The statue and plinth dedicated to Sir W.T. Lewis is a Grade II listed structure. It features a standing, bearded figure with arms crossed in front, holding an unrolled document or plan. At the base of the statue, there is a miners' lamp and a pile of papers positioned at the rear of the feet. The statue is set upon a tapering pedestal that has a moulded cornice and a stepped plinth. A bronze heraldic plaque is located on the front of the pedestal. The long inscription on the rear commemorates his good works, beginning with the words: "Erected by the Voluntary Subscriptions of Friends and Admirers...."
