Description
St Tydfil's Hospital Entrance Block is a two-storey structure built in the Decorated Gothic style. The central part of the building features a gabled range that projects forward, constructed with snecked rubble facings and freestone dressings, topped with a slate roof that includes a ventilator. The gable has a kneelered parapet adorned with a finial and a date panel.
A large four-light traceried window, decorated with ogee quatrefoils, cusping, and a crenellated transom, is set under a segmented head and features a drip mould with headstops. The upper floor is corbelled out and linked to a bold three-light ground floor window, which has a rectangular drip mould, foliage stops, and carved spandrels. The right side of the building has a two-light window above the three-light window, maintaining the same decorative details.
On the left side, there is a similar upper window positioned above a gabled porch that projects from a two-storey Tudor-style block facing Union Place. This side also includes a gabled wing with an apex chimney on the outer left. The building features slate roofs, sash windows set in chamfered reveals, and a pointed doorway beneath a Gothic fanlight.
The rear elevation mirrors the front, showcasing a two-window gabled cross-range with traceried two-light windows similar to those at the front. The attached southern range is not included in this description.
