Description
The Lodge of Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls is a two-storey building constructed in squared red-brown sandstone rubble with Bath stone dressings and a tile-hung first floor. It features a plain-tiled roof with stone chimneys and is part of a group that includes attached gates and piers. The lodge has an L-shaped layout that backs onto a lane to the south.
The main block faces north and includes an advanced gabled section with a 3-light mullion-and-transom window in a slightly projecting oriel. The ground floor is open, forming two bays of a verandah that extends to the left in front of a recessed single-storey block, which also has two bays of verandah supported by timber posts on a dwarf wall. To the right of the gable, there is an additional bay of verandah with a curving tiled roof that covers the entrance doorway. The ground floor to the right features a 2-light window.
On the west end, there are 3-light mullion-and-transom windows on both floors, with the upper window again in a slight oriel. The rear elevation has a roughly central gable with a 2-light window on the upper floor and another 2-light window below. To the left, there is a 2-light window set across the storeys, with a small mullioned window below. To the right of the gable, there is a slightly advanced one-window block with a tall stone chimney and a stepped parapet. The building was not inspected during the resurvey.
