Description
20 Hereford Road is part of a row of houses numbered 14 to 20, built in the 19th century. The front facades of these houses are rendered and painted, except for No. 20, which reveals random sandstone rubble. The rear elevations are partially weatherboarded, and the roofs are covered with modern interlocking tiles on the front slope and part pantiles on the rear. The building has a double depth plan with a rear lean-to, stands two storeys tall with an attic, and features eight windows across the front, all with 2 over 2 pane sashes. The paired doors are of a Victorian design, consisting of four panels with two glazed panels and shared hoods. The steeply pitched roof includes four small dormers with sloping roofs, each fitted with 2 + 2 pane casements. There is a gable stack for No. 20, a shared stack between Nos. 16 and 18, and it appears that the stack for No. 14 has been removed. The rear elevation has a single-storey pentice that is weatherboarded above, with one window each, all features dating from the 20th century. Inside, all features seem to be from the 20th century, but the centrally placed staircase is likely in its original position.
