Description
Pentre Derwen is a block of four estate cottages built in 1914, designed in the Arts and Crafts vernacular style. The cottages feature whitewashed roughcast walls with a red brick plinth, a red plain-tile roof, and five red brick chimneys. They are one and a half storeys tall with a symmetrical front. The narrow central entrance bay projects slightly and has a steep gable with swept eaves. Each side of the entrance bay has a range of four windows, with eaves gables above.
The ground floor windows consist of small paned casements arranged as three, four, four, and three-light on each side, while the upper level features two 2-light windows set within broad plain gables. The central entrance gable has a shorter 2-light window above a date plaque that reads 'IH Pentre Derwen 1914'. The entrance itself is a plain round arch leading to an open passage.
The end walls of the cottages have two 2-light windows on the first floor. At the rear, there are three gables, each with two 2-light windows, and a central arch leading to the passage. Additionally, there are four doors separated by two single-storey outbuildings that are positioned at right angles, featuring red brick end stacks. These outbuildings are shared back-to-back between two of the cottages and include a 2-light window, two doors, and a single light. The property is not available for inspection.
