Description

The Crumlin Viaduct West Abutment in the Ebbw Valley is a Grade II listed structure. It features all four abutments made of snecked rockfaced stone with ashlar dressings. The abutments serve as a retaining wall and are characterized by heavy rockfaced quoins with tooled arises, corniced coping, and three massive angled buttresses. The offset is marked by a thick moulded ashlar band that matches the profile of the coping. The lower section of the abutment is battered into the slope, while the central part of the wall between the piers is slightly recessed.
