Description
The Blackwood War Memorial is a cenotaph-type memorial inspired by Lutyens' Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and sits on a polished granite square base with a stepped plinth. The pylon features inscriptions in black letters on the front and sides, while the left side includes a metal plaque listing names from the 1914-18 and 1939-45 wars. The stepped cap has polished granite bands and pilasters, along with two relief wreaths on each face.
Access to the memorial is provided by two square piers situated between convex concrete steps. On the left side, facing Lewis Avenue, there is a dwarf wall and ashlar piers that frame three bays of iron railings, which include X-shaped panels.
