Description

Crumlin Old Farmhouse and the adjoining barn consist of a farmhouse and barn range, with the house forming an L-shape due to the later addition of a two-storey rear wing to the single-storey and attic front. The structure is built of whitewashed rubble resting on boulder footings, with a battered profile and a stone tile roof. It features three dormers and a central ridge stack, along with overhanging eaves and evidence of a former pentice on the uphill section. The renewed casement windows, two on either side of the centrally located right doorway, are fitted with timber lintels and stone sills. To the right, there is a separate wider entrance and a window beside it. The uphill gable end includes an attic window with a hood, timber lintel, and stone sill, while the downhill end has a blocked gable opening with a smaller hood.

At the rear, the later wing has a cambered-headed doorway with voussoirs and a six-pane casement window with a stone sill, which has also been renewed, along with tooled quoins. Attached at the front is a now roofless farm range that may have previously included a barn, byre, and stable, with three periods of construction indicated by straight joints. The unit attached to the house has two square-headed openings with timber lintels, larger on the left and reduced on the right. The latest unit on the far right features cambered-headed openings, some of which are blocked, and large quoins, while both gable ends have slit ventilators.

The interior has a baffle entry plan with a door opening onto the chimney stack. Beams are retained in the room to the left. The property underwent refurbishment in 1998. The barn attached to the house still retains its threshing floor and has a blocked rear doorway.
