Description
Penrhiwlas is a long rectangular building dating from the 19th century, featuring a single storey and attic, with a two-storeyed gabled south wing. The roof is covered with stone tiles and terracotta ridge tiles, and there is a replaced brick ridge stack along with two gabled dormers at the rear. The exterior is made of whitewashed stone rubble.
The front elevation showcases a small two-light upper window with a hood and shallow sill above the steep-pitched gabled south wing, with a later bay window below. To the left is a window, while to the right is an altered window and an extension. The gable end facing the road has an attic window with a hood and sill. The rear elevation features a low porch outshut with a single-pitched stone tile roof, leading to a rubble wall that encloses a shallow courtyard. There is a doorway in the center left, a casement window with a hood to the right, a small cambered-headed window to the left, and an enlarged window at the end. To the right, there are two blocked doorways with shallow timber lintels, and a further low rubble wall extends to the garden.
Inside, the building retains deeply chamfered and stopped close-set beams without joists, and there is a boarded ceiling in the main ground floor rooms. A blocked former open fireplace is present, with curved wooden stairs beside it that bifurcate to provide access to the loft at the end unit. The A-frame roof is intact. Originally, a screen separated the main room from the cross passage; on the opposite side, there was a former dairy and outbuilding, which has now been converted into separate living accommodation.
