Description

115 High Street is a commercial building designed in a flamboyant northern renaissance style, dating from the late 19th century. It stands four storeys tall and features a narrow single bay made of decorative glazed faience, topped with a gabled slate roof that is set back behind a parapet. The building has metal windows in their original openings.

Notable architectural features include a canted oriel window on the first and second floors, which consists of a paired central light flanked by single windows on each side. The first-floor windows are particularly ornate, featuring transoms, arched upper lights, decorated spandrels, and enriched mullions, along with a lozenge-panelled apron. These windows are flanked by full-height pilasters, and the sills, cornice, and transoms create a series of decorative bands. The oriel window is topped with a decorative frieze and cornice.

The upper floor is simpler, with a 2-light transomed window that has arched upper lights and a frieze. The parapet includes decorative panels on the sides and a central Dutch gable adorned with consoles, a tympanum, and a globe finial. Erect lions holding shields are positioned on each side of the gable. The ground floor features a modern shop front.

The interior has not been inspected but may still contain original plan forms and constructional or decorative features that contribute to the building's special interest.
