Description

1-2 Upper Colliers Row is a pair of joined, two-storey stone cottages with slate roofs, part of a row that has mostly been altered. Some original stone chimneys remain, and a few window openings have not been enlarged. The cottages typically feature catslide roofs at the rear, many of which have been extended. Several cottages have been combined, and there are gardens in front with some remaining stone walls. To the south, there is an area of irregular enclosures or allotments associated with the cottage row.

Nos 1 and 2 are connected, with render removed since 1975. They have a close-eaved slate roof, a red brick chimney stack on the left, and a rendered stack on the right that is shared with No 3. The cottages are a mirrored pair, featuring upper windows directly above larger outer windows and inner doors, with an additional window above the door of No 1, which has had its head raised. The door to No 2 has been converted into a window and has a thin brick head, as do the ground floor windows. All glazing and doors date from the late 20th century. There is a catslide roof at the rear, and there may be a pre-20th century window under the eaves at the back, possibly the only one remaining on the row.

The interior is not available for inspection, but it is said to feature joisted floors and fireplaces on the left and right, with winding staircases adjacent. No 1 has timber features, while No 2 has stone elements.
