Description

The aqueduct on the Dowlais Free Drainage System is a structure made of grey stone, featuring a segmental arch that stands approximately 2.4 meters high and spans 1.4 meters. The arch is constructed with stone voussoirs. It has angled wing-walls and buttresses, also made of stone, with the soffit finished in red brick. The parapets have been repaired with cement. The watercourse beneath the aqueduct is about 1 meter wide and lined with brick. There is a tunnel that is approximately 4 meters long, with the northern side partially buried under overburden since 1979.
