Description
The aqueduct over Dowlais Brook on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is a 19th-century structure. It features two tunnels made of squared stone, each with segmental arched openings on either side of the canal. The aqueduct has high stone embanking walls that lack parapets but are supported by triangular piers on each side and between the tunnels. These piers have sloping tops and stop about 1 meter below the top of the wall. The abutments on either side are splayed. The arches consist of stone voussoirs with raised keystones, and the walling is constructed of squared stone laid in courses. On the downstream side, the river is paved for approximately 6 meters with squared stone blocks that end at a low weir.
