271 Cowbridge Road East

271 Cowbridge Road East is a pair of two-storey classical houses located at Canton Cross. The buildings feature stuccoed walls with a band and plinth, topped by a slate roof.

At No. 271, there are two sash windows on the first floor, which do not have glazing bars and include horns and moulded architraves. The ground floor originally had three sash windows, but the right-hand window is now blocked by a bank ATM. On the eastern side elevation, there is a lower cross-wing with a hipped roof, which has a sash window on the first floor with a modern ventilator inserted, and two ground floor sash windows that have glazing bars and horns. A modern porch is canted across the angle between the wing and the main block.

No. 273 features two first-floor sash windows, each with six over six panes and moulded stuccoed architraves. On the ground floor, there is a triple plate glass sash window on the left with a moulded architrave and cornice on consoles. To the right, there is a doorway with an architrave and cornice on consoles, although the cornice appears to be modern or repaired, leading to a modern half-glazed door. The roof is hipped over both houses, with a central brick stack. The rear elevation was not seen.

The ground floor of No. 271 has been modernised for bank use, and the interiors were not available for inspection during the resurvey.
