Description
273 Cowbridge Road East is a pair of two-storey classical houses located at Canton Cross, featuring stuccoed walls with a band and plinth, and a slate roof.
At No. 271, there are two first-floor sash windows without glazing bars, which have horns and moulded architraves. The ground floor originally had three sash windows, but the right-hand one is now blocked by a bank ATM. There is a lower cross-wing on the eastern side elevation, which has a hipped roof; it includes a first-floor sash window with a modern ventilator, and two ground-floor sash windows with glazing bars and horns. A modern porch is canted across the angle between the wing and the main block.
At No. 273, there are two first-floor sash windows, each with six panes over six, featuring moulded stuccoed architraves. On the ground floor, there is a triple plate glass sash window on the left with a moulded architrave and cornice on consoles, and a doorway on the right with an architrave and cornice on consoles, although the cornice appears to be modern or repaired. The doorway has a modern half-glazed door. The roof is hipped over both houses with a central brick stack. The rear elevation was not seen during the resurvey.
