Description
Bligh House is a pair of houses, now functioning as a house and flats, built around 1830 with late 20th-century alterations. The building is finished in stucco and features a hipped roof covered with Welsh slate, along with a central brick chimney stack. It stands three stories tall and has four bays.
The ground floor showcases horizontal rustication and a stuccoed plinth. The entrance to No. 78 is on the right and consists of a door with three moulded panels and an overlight. To the left, there is a late 20th-century 16-pane sash window that replaced a former bay window. No. 80 has a three-panelled door on the left, with the upper panel being glazed and an overlight above. To the right, there is another 16-pane sash window.
On the first floor, there are four full-length 12-pane sash windows, each providing access to an iron balcony. These windows are set within reeded surrounds that feature corner blocks. The balcony is supported by iron brackets and is adorned with decorative railings that include crossed bars with anthemion and Vitruvian scroll pattern panels. Above this, there is a band and moulded cornice that forms a sillband for four 6-pane sash windows on the second floor. The building is topped with a coped parapet.
The right return of the building has a late 20th-century porch extension that includes an entrance door to No. 78A and fire escape stairs. The interior has not been inspected.
