Description
Aberthaw Signal Box is a structure featuring a red brick base with a timber-framed upper storey and a Welsh slate roof. The ground floor, which serves as the locking room, has three arched windows with glazing bars, while the first floor is divided into four sections, with small panes above larger ones. There is a door leading to the locking room and a timber stair that provides access to a gabled porch entry on the left-hand gable end. The right-hand gable has window returns, and the rear wall is blind. The roof includes plain bargeboards and spike finials. This signal box is located on the former platform of Aberthaw (Barry or High Level) station, which was closed in 1964.
The interior details were not available during the resurvey, but it is understood to contain a lever frame with 53 levers that was installed in 1962, although not all of these levers are currently in use.
