Description

Nos 1, 2, and 3 Church Cottages form a terrace of three cottages designed in the Tudor Revival or cottage orne style. They are constructed from coursed stone rubble with raised brick dressings, featuring a corbelled gable apex. The cottages have a slate roof adorned with decorative cusped and pierced barge-boards at the overhanging eaves, finials, and paired red brick chimney stacks with toothed cornices set diagonally on the ridges. The glazing consists of diamond quarries in metal framed casements with cambered heads.

The layout of the terrace includes a continuous rear range and three parallel cross wings, creating the entrance frontages. The houses are nearly symmetrical, with the entrance front displaying a two-window range for each cottage and an off-centre doorway that has a bracketed gabled hood and a boarded door. Notably, number 2 features only a single window on the first floor.

The garden frontage at the rear differs, with each cottage showcasing paired half dormers that have similar decorative bargeboards above a casement window, forming a continuous row of six. The ground floor features decorative gabled wooden porches flanked by windows on the central house and single windows on the end houses.

Number 2 lacks ridge stacks on the long range, while number 3 does not have gable front paired stacks and includes a side extension. The roof of number 3 is made of artificial slate. The plan includes stairs that rise parallel to the garden frontage between the two wings.
