Description
Cwrt-yr-Ala House is a country house designed in a restrained Neo-Georgian style. It features a rendered exterior with a hipped pantile roof behind a parapet and broad rendered stacks positioned on the ridges. The house has a U-shaped plan, consisting of the main reception range with a garden-facing center, a service range on the uphill (west) side, and a billiard room on the downhill (east) side. It is two storeys tall, with large multipane sash windows that are almost full-length on the ground floor, and shutters on the main ground floor range. The shallow corner pilasters are topped by small urns.
The entrance is located on the east side, featuring a six-window range. The garden frontage is symmetrical with a seven-window range that leads to a balustraded terrace. The west-facing elevation has a similar return front bay and a six-window range that overlooks the sunken garden.
Inside, a corridor runs along the spine of the house, with the main reception rooms opening off it, including a drawing room, music room, study, and dining room, all offering views of the garden. A staircase with painted cast-iron bannisters rises at the rear, and polished wood floors are present throughout. Notably, the house features remarkable plastered and painted Adamesque ceilings, along with elegant retained fireplaces.
