Description
Brooks Farm, also known as Brook Farm, is a two-unit, two-storey cottage dating from the 18th century. The building features rendered rubble masonry beneath a slate roof and has two masonry end stacks. An entrance porch with a gabled roof made of concrete leads to a half-lit front door, which is flanked by two-light casement windows with flat heads and stone sills. There are two similar windows on the first floor, although the right window is not aligned with the one below. There are no openings on the south gable or the rear of the cottage. Immediately behind the house is a 20th-century cow shed that likely replaces an earlier threshing barn, which has a small 20th-century window in the north gable, offset to the left.
Attached to the north of the house is a long single-storey range that is set forward. This structure, originally built for agricultural purposes, is also made of rubble stone under a slate roof and now includes the kitchen for the house. It features a 20th-century window at the south end and a front lean-to with a planked door. The rear has a wide 20th-century opening in the centre and two 20th-century windows to the left, while to the right is a planked door with a small diamond light under a wooden lintel.
Inside, the cottage has a simple two-room layout. The front door opens into the left room, which faces a straight staircase with boarded sides. Each room has a fireplace, with the left room featuring a timber lintel. The ceilings are made of asbestos panels. A door leads to the left into the kitchen. The interior of the adjoining range has been modernised and includes the kitchen and storage areas, with a light collar truss roof.
