Description
Primrose Cottage, Bluebell Cottage, Lamb Cottage
History C19, possibly with earlier origins. A small building is shown on this site on the tithe map of 1840. House or Public House with adjoining cart shed to R. Later, the cart shed was converted to a cottage; the wide entrance was infilled with a door and window, and a stone end stack added. A further unit appears to have been added to the L end.
Exterior Terrace of 3 cottages, each with door to R and window to L. Two storeys. Rubble stone, slate roof with red ridge tiles, cusped eaves cornice. Stone end stack to R cottage, stone ridge stack to central cottage and brick end stack to L cottage. A butt joint suggests that the L cottage is later. Planked front doors, those to L and R with overlights. Twelve-pane horned sashes to central and R cottages, that to the latter being wider. Between the two is a very small 4-pane widow of earlier origin. Two-light casement to L cottage. All the openings have flat arched stone heads, but those to the R cottage are under a wide segmental arch which formed the cart entrance. Each cottage has a 2-light multi-pane casement to the upper storey rising to the eaves and directly above the lower storey windows. Large lean-to to rear with balcony, and dormers. No openings to gable ends. The E gable end is rendered.
No access to interior at time of inspection (11/12/97).
