Description
The Sea Walls and Towers at St Donats Castle are notable structures that include an outer sea embankment wall, which features a south-east side made of blue lias stone. The parapet and deck of this embankment wall are currently covered with concrete and are breached by a slipway.
On the inner south-west side of the sea embankment, there is a wall likely built in the late 19th to early 20th century, which is also breached by a slipway. This wall encloses the ground to the south-east of the Cavalry Barracks. The local lias limestone wall has a battered seaward face and a castellated parapet that was probably added later.
At each end of the embankment, there are square, two-storey stone towers with castellated parapets supported by corbels, likely constructed in the early 20th century. Each tower features a four-centred arch window opening in each direction on the upper floor, as well as a pointed arch doorway flanked by lancets that lead onto the slipways.
