Description
Downs Farmhouse is a two-storey building constructed from coursed local limestone rubble, topped with Welsh slate gabled roofs and stone gable stacks. The main elevation is now largely covered in creeper as of May 2003. The house features a three-bay centre wing flanked by two lower height, one-bay wings that are slightly recessed. Originally, the building had sash windows, but the centre wing now has modern three-pane sash windows in segmentally headed openings at the end bays. In the centre, there is a half-glazed modern door with an oval window above it. Each flanking wing has an inner ground floor doorway with a modern door and a small central first floor window with a cambered head. All joinery dates from the late 20th century.
At the rear, there is a short projecting cross-wing with an external chimney breast on the gable end, and all joinery here is also from the late 20th century.
The interior details were not available during the resurvey, but according to the previous list description from 1982, the centre wing features a staircase with straight balusters. Each side room of the centre wing has a fireplace surround in an early 19th century style, complete with a reeded frame and angle roundels.
