Description

Brooklands Cottage is a two-storey building constructed from roughly squared limestone rubble, which is mostly rendered and painted, except for the entrance elevation. It features a Welsh slate hipped roof with flanking external stacks and a stack located east of the center.

The main south elevation has three window bays and a doorway opposite the center fireplace. There is a blocked doorway, likely situated between the first and second windows from the west. The windows are 3 + 3 pane casements, and the door is set in an arched surround. At the south-west end, there is a further two-storey, one-bay wing with a separate double-pitched roof and stack, which is set back. This wing originally had a through passage with quarter-round arches, now partly blocked. On the garden elevation of this set-back wing, there is a single-light casement just below the eaves and a small rectangular ventilator opening at ground level.

The rear of the cottage has a 20th-century wing and lean-to, with all windows on this elevation being plastic units. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey, but the existing list description notes that the partition between the former center and left-hand rooms has been removed to create one room. A modern rolled steel joist (RSJ) is on the line of the former partition, alongside three massive chamfered ceiling beams with pyramid stops. There is a fireplace with a wooden bressumer and fireplace stairs to the north, as well as a later fireplace in the northeast ground floor room. Internal shutters are present on the windows in the garden elevation. These interior features have been confirmed by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW).
