Description

The Poplars is a two-storey house dating from the 19th century, which includes an adjoining single-storey service wing to the southeast. Both the house and the service wing have stone walls; the rear elevation of the house is made of stone rubble, while the front elevation is faced with coursed stone. The gable walls of the house are hung with slate. The roof is gabled and covered with slate and slate asbestos, featuring stone stacks on either side.

The front elevation has three bays, with a sash window without glazing bars on the ground floor flanking a central doorway. This doorway is adorned with a wooden trellis porch that has a tented roof and a half-glazed panelled door, with the top panels having rounded heads. On the first floor, there are three sash windows, each four panes wide. The rear or northwest elevation features three two-light casements with small panes on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a similar casement on each side of a doorway that is asymmetrically placed relative to the centre first floor window. This doorway has a ledged door and a lean-to porch with a sloping roof and boarded sides.

The property is surrounded by a stone wall, with a 19th-century iron gate on the southwest side leading to the front elevation. There is also a stone stile in front of the rear elevation on the northwest side.
