Description

These are two cottages, likely dating from the 18th century, built of stone rubble with quoins on the right-hand side. A straight joint indicates where an earlier row of almshouses once stood to the south. The cottages have slate gabled roofs with a pebbledash chimney on the left and a more modern brick chimney in the centre. The front elevation has four windows. The two-light stone mullioned windows with leaded glass and dripstones are replacements, with four windows above and one in each end bay below. Wide four-centred doorways with stone dressings are set into the inner ground floor bays; the doorway in number 7 is likely original, while that in number 6 is a replacement.

Inside, the cottages retain good main ground floor beams. A dressed stone arched doorway is present in both cottages at the head of the original staircase, now located in number 7. A hooded fireplace is found on the first floor of number 7.
