Description

The Old Vicarage is a two-storey building with attics, constructed from rubble stone and featuring a brick facade that is rendered on the eastern gable end, topped with a slate roof. The house was widened in the early 19th century to enhance domestic facilities and has a further one-and-a-half storey extension at the rear that includes a larder and a servants' room. There is also a small single-storey wing with a service entrance.

The layout consists of a central wide entrance hall with a staircase leading to the rear, flanked by reception rooms. The building has gable stacks and is five window bays wide, with a central gable. The brickwork is colourwashed in Montgomery cream and features central and high-level plat bands. The central glazed door is set within a moulded architrave and is accessed by three semi-circular steps that rise from the former carriage drive at the front. Above the door are twelve-paned sash windows in raised frames with stone sills. On either side of the central bay are narrow recessed panels, while the side bays also have twelve-paned sashes with heavy glazing bars and some original glass, all within openings that have one-and-a-half brick flat arches. The eaves are open, and there are two small 19th-century dormers. An attic window in the gable features nine-pane single hung sashes, and the gables are coped on ogee cut kneelers.

There is a secondary entrance, which is now the main entrance, featuring a boarded door and a stone and slated open porch at the side. Inside, there is a fine dog leg stair with turned balusters, which is doubled at the foot. The layout was otherwise altered in the 19th century, with the main drawing room relocated to the first floor, and the windows have panelled reveals.
