Description
Rose Cottage, which includes the forecourt garden walls, is a two-storey cottage built against or incorporating the structure of the medieval town wall that extends to the nearby South Gate. The cottage features colourwashed stone rubble walls and a slate gabled roof with stone stacks at each end, the one on the left being smaller. The front elevation has two bays with a central doorway and two-light casement windows. The first-floor window on the left is set lower, with two taller windows on the ground floor. There is a colourwashed brick gabled porch in the center, which has a modern half-glazed door and a modern glazed door at the rear. Inside, the right-hand ground floor room has a narrow chamfered beam with stops.
The stone rubble garden wall at the front turns at the right corner and extends north to the medieval South Gate of the town. To the left, the wall is higher and features rounded rubble coping. There is a gateway with an iron gate opposite the door of Rose Cottage; the gate has slender iron uprights with scroll finials that rise alternately above the top and middle rails.
