Description

Slade is a Gothic-style house built from grey stone with quoins and a graded slate roof from the 20th century. It features heavy stone chimneys, elaborate bargeboards, and wooden casement windows. The entrance faces southwest, leading to a gabled block on the right with a single window on the first floor and two windows on the ground floor. To the left of this block is a two-storey gabled porch that has a square-headed doorway and a first-floor window, with a ground floor window on the left return. The porch includes a Tudor-headed entrance doorway with the original door. To the left of the porch is a three-light casement window on the ground floor only.

On the northwest side, there is a two-window block with paired gables, featuring two casement windows on each floor. To the left, set back and at a lower level due to the sloping ground, is another gabled block in the same style, which includes a conservatory on the ground floor. Facing the garden to the southeast is a bay with a half-timbered gable and a datestone, a splayed bay window, and to the right, two gabled dormers, followed by a lower two-window gabled block.

Internally, apart from a late 20th-century modernization of the kitchen, the house has preserved its character remarkably well. This includes panelled doors, doorways with panelled reveals, fitted cupboards, shutters, and cornices. The hall features a staircase with stick balusters. A room on the front right has an elaborate cornice and fireplace. The landing boasts an elliptical ribbed ceiling, with original doors leading to the bedrooms and fitted cupboards. The house also has vaulted cellars.
