Description
Seamouth Lodge is a Gothic-style, single-storey lodge constructed of random masonry and topped with a slate roof. The main section runs east to west, with a lower south wing at the front, offset to the left. There is a gabled porch at the southeast corner. A short north wing is present, along with a long, low service range extending north from the northwest corner. The west side of the lodge is adjacent to the boundary wall of the park. It features tall stone ridge stacks on the main range and at the angle of the south wing and porch, both with polygonal shafts, as well as a smaller stack on the north service range. Architectural details include raised copings on the gables supported by kneelers, quoins, and stone dressings. The windows are wooden lancets with ogee heads, often paired, and include opening lights.
The front (south) gable has paired lancets beneath a relieving arch. The porch to the right is slightly recessed and features a doorway with a flat stone lintel and curved shoulders. The boarded door is studded and has fleur-de-lis style hinges.
The main range has a gable at the west end, with paired lancets under a relieving arch. The park boundary wall runs north from the northwest corner, directly in front of the long low service wing. There are no openings on the west side of the south cross wing.
The east end of the main range is canted beneath a hipped roof with splayed eaves and stone copings, featuring a single lancet on each face, as well as one on the east side of the north wing. The porch gable faces east and includes a window with three ogee heads beneath a square hoodmould and a relieving arch, with quarry glazing. An inset tablet with a fleur-de-lis top is located at the apex. The east side of the long service range has a planked door to the right and a single light window to the left. The north wing also has a hipped roof.
A semi-octagonal gate pier with a swept pyramidal cap is integrated into the southwest angle of the lodge, forming the north side of a pedestrian gateway into the park. At the time of inspection on January 22, 1998, there was no access to the lodge. It is said to contain the crest of Caroline of Dunraven set into the wall inside the porch.
