Description
Newbridge Farmhouse is a sub-medieval house from the early 17th century, featuring three stories and an attic, with mainly 19th-century extensions at the front and alterations inside. The front is made of rubble, while the side and rear elevations are covered in cement render. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof with overhanging eaves and cement render gable end chimney stacks.
The entrance front is asymmetrical with two windows and a gable on the left. The entrance is concealed by a later rendered rubble lean-to with a slate roof, which has boarded-up windows and extends beyond the southeast elevation, interfering with the front windows. There is a two-light window on the first floor with an ovolo moulded mullion, and Tudor hoodmoulds above the attic and blocked second-floor windows. A further corrugated lean-to is located in front. The southeast side features fine windows that widen towards the ground floor, all with hoodmoulds, while the southwest and northwest sides are plain with few small openings, some of which are blocked.
A single-storey service range is attached to the northwest corner and extends northeast. This range is made of whitewashed rubble with a slate roof and a brick chimney stack.
The interior was renovated in the 19th century, featuring a central stair entrance. The original entrance is concealed by the extension but retains a pointed arch doorway with Tudor roses in the spandrels. There are narrow back stairs, a four-centred arch doorway in the attic, and similar fireplaces. The ceiling beams are plain, and the timber A-frame roof construction has been renewed but includes independent tie beams.
At the time of inspection in Spring 1986, the farmhouse was disused and in poor condition.
